Garrett Reisman, a former NASA Astronaut talks about how in the past the Space Shuttles had explosives on them and would have to be exploded if they had a malfunction, or incident during liftoff and were headed back towards land. The people responsible for "pressing the big red button" were know as Range Safety Officers.
